We (well most of us) are aware of the classic elements - Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. However in some cultures (mainly Eastern) the Ether also features.
Briefly:-
Air is the element which allows motion to occur.
Fire ignites, burns, heats and has the ability to transform all other elements, thus dispelling ignorance and strengthening truth.
Water is the element that allows for softness, love and compassion to be strengthened in the mind.
Earth gives strength and in the mind mental stability.
The Ether is the field where everything exists.

Steve, you have alluded to the main four of these elements and how they impact upon your life and relationships with family and friends.
Indeed all the classic elements are within us as characters and individuals ...... what we make of them is up to us, how we use them and their influences is also up to us. Some use them wisely, others perhaps not so.
In you and the influence you have obviously had on your wife and children, I (including Vivienne) have come to know you all, and indeed hold you all as dear, true and trusted friends.
Thanks for the impact and influence you have had on our lives.
Graham & Vivienne.

Wow, I guess we'd all like to be sitting in the evening sun in Turkey, navel gazing, having the time to reflect and consider! I'll bet you've more time though because the Icelandic cloud of dust is preventing you flying back!

Jesting aside, time is what many of us never seem to have enough of. Certainly not enough time during our working hours, when we're all running at 90 miles an hour ( or is that kph now!)just trying to keep on top of the many issues thrown at us during the day. To undertand why each of us behave in the way that we do and to quickly determine how best to manage our teams and relationships, really does need us to invest a small amount of time to consider and reflect.

Having witnessed the power of the Tetramap, seems a small price to pay for such a simple yet powerful tool, to be used in the further understandings of our own behaviour and in our engagement with others.

Seems to me to be time well spent. Hope you enjoy the sun - and having the time!

Hi Steve,

It would be dishonest of me to say that I had just read your blog. I have known you some years now. I have had the privilege of watching you work your way thro' the ups and downs of life, the decisions you have made and the sufferings and joys that have happened as a result of life and economic strategies. However, when a man comes to realise what his true purpose is: that is to add value to the lives of others who he comes into contact with, then that is maturity.

If this can be extended daily to those who ordinarily would not touch his life; to be able to put others first and to see the long term consequences - is vision.

To be able to speak words of comfort, healing and inspiration - is prophetic.

To encourage because of the lessons that one has leart in life, to acquire and bless on, is that most sacred of gifts - wisdom.

Altruism is a technical word, one that may not convey the depth of its meaning to those who are not acquainted with revealing feelings that life actually exposes within us. We shy away from these things. We cover them, even our giving is a cover and we feel wonderful at Christmas, because that is the socially acceptable time to ..."think about others".

Altruism perhaps could be described as an all encompassing, flowing, giving and sincerely held belief; a system by which we can live our lives and grow as fully expressive, loving human beings.

I wish you well.

Luv, Suzie

This is a first for me - I have only read one blog in the past and because I have little understanding of such things and certainly have not had the need to set up one of my own, I have heard the word BLOG but steer clear for fear of making myself look stupid (a talent for which I need no help!)
I loved reading your thoughts on how the world of training turns, and I learned along time ago that people who judge their insides by other peoples outsides are pretty shallow, I don't however ever write anyone off completely, although as some folk make they're way through the world I may not choose to spend time with them! In some cases (not all)it is these people who make the biggest changes to thier lives especially when it comes to values and what is important to them. I also loved the way you described your memory of you Mum, I am blessed to have both parents still alive and through all my trials and at times behaviour that not even a mother could love of understand these two wonderful human beings have stood my corner and today the only thing they focus on is the daughter they have today and they proud! so proud. So Mums no a thing or two about what really matters, its a shame it takes us so long to learn it somtimes!

Hi Stephen

What a fantastic blog! I know how you feel, having lost my Mum, auntie and uncle this year. All three were of the old school, always thinking of others and not themselves. Also my partner lost her father recently (another great man) and she is finding it very hard to come to terms with his death.

There is nothing as precious as life, why does it take so long for some of us to realise it. I now look for excuses to spend more time with my family! Thankfully, we have a son, daughter and grandchildren or this Christmas would be a very bleak affair.

Eddie, thanks for your kind words. No it doesn't get any easier, I think the worrying just intensifies for different reasons - but it's nice going on holiday and leaving them at home though!! But great to come back too. For me the current climate means a good bit of spare time over the next few months - time I'll devote to things that are more important that money! Love them and hug them whenever you can! I got told tonight I was a great Dad for teaching him to drive - hoorah, a success! Keep in touch.

This is a great post. Brilliant finding another soppy sod!

I'm a fairly new dad - daughter of 2.5yrs and a son of 2 months and love every minute of it. So much in fact that leaving the house in the morning can be unbearable. I'm lucky that my business allows me as much flexibility as the current climate allows, but I am struggling to be fair. Great to see it never gets any easier! Sort of.
